You will get hands on experience with the design of permeable pavement systems and a variety of modular mass gravity and reinforced earth retaining wall systems. Students will generally start with carrying out preliminary design reports, overseen by one of our graduate engineers. By the end of the placement you should be able to complete full geotechnical design reports under the supervision of our chartered engineers. You will understand the design process, know and recognise some typical and site specific hazards, be able to interpret ground investigation reports in most cases and understand many of the requirements of the design and construction standards for earthworks, pavements and retaining walls in the UK.
